Minor setback

Posted by Jack on 19 Oct 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized, notices, publication updates, status updates

We had a problem with the images.  I made the mistake of scanning the images in at 72 dpi.  They should have been 300 dpi.  No worries though, the problem should be corrected soon.  If you’re wondering why we haven’t updated you so far, it is because we haven’t had any news up until now.  I know some of you believe that no news is good news, but I guarantee you that I am keeping close tabs on this endeavor.

The book has been received by Infinity

Infinity is working on putting together TTtG as we speak.  YAY!!!

More updates

Posted by Jack on 24 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: status updates

A few things that I forgot to mention. For those of you who are curious about the price of the book, it will be $14.95. Also, there are around 225 pages in the book, and I have you guys to thank for that.  I know that Jen, Doug, and I definitely see potential for a second volume of poetry.  There are a few projects in the works, which I will explain in a future blog, which will happen in a few minutes.

TTtG is off to the publishers

Posted by Jack on 22 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized, notices, publication updates, status updates

The book has been mailed to our publisher and I am doing the dance of joy at my work desk. We started out with 55 authors, but due to certain circumstances, we whittled it down to 47 authors and 106 written pieces. I’m very impressed with the way the book was designed, and I’m sure that you will feel the same way. Anywho, here’s the list of authors that will be featured in Trails Through the Greenbelt.

So there’s your update. Also, the illustrations that Jane Butters contributed are astounding. As always, stay in touch with us and we will let you know all of the details of the publication, as well as events that we will be holding.

Major thanks

Thanks to Lynn Morton’s generosity, we now have $100 that will be going to the supplying of books for the release party. Also, thank you to all of the people who have bought necklaces from Jen and artwork from Jane. I apologize for not updating this sooner.

It should also be added that the deadline has been reached and if I haven’t talked to you at all about your submissions, you will not be published. Sorry to tell you, but you guys had your chance and you blew it. The following people have talked to me about their situation and will have their work accepted. These people include Gabriela Pawelec and Tom Tripo. Jackie, I’ll try to make it to your house soon. Things are a bit hectic right now.

We will keep you posted on any new developments.

13 days left

Posted by Jen on 17 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: notices

Hello contributors to Trails Through the Greenbelt,

This is a notice reminding all contributors that as of Sunday, June 17th, there are only 13 days left to get your authorisation forms in so that your work can be included in the publication.

The authorisation form is located here.

Right-click (or CTRL+click on a Mac) on the link above, click “Save File As” (or whatever it’s called on your browser), save it to your Desktop, print it out, sign it (in pen), and mail it back to the address on the form.

If you do not have access to a printer or cannot mail it in for whatever reason, contact us here, on our MySpace, or through our MySpace group and let us know so that arrangements can be made.

The deadline is July 1st. If you do not get your form in or make arrangement to get the form in by that date, your work will be removed from the draft of the anthology, and will not be published.

Another goal reached

Posted by Jack on 03 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: fundraising, status updates

Thanks to some generous benefactors, we now have enough money to publish Trails Through the Greenbelt. Our fundraising efforts will continue, since we still need some money to purchase books for direct sale when we schedule book signings and release parties. As always, we will keep you posted on further developments.

We give thanks to the following benefactors: Laura Langworthy, The Cala Family, Adrianna Goffredo, The Boyer-Shanahan Family, Jill Avedon, and Arathi Reddy. Special thanks to Jen Carlo and Jane Butters for their fundraising efforts. Jen is making and selling beaded necklaces as I type this entry and Jane has been selling her artwork for the cause.

More to come…

List of contributors

Posted by Jack on 02 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: notices, status updates

Hello everybody. My name is Jack M. Freedman and I am the editor of Trails Through the Greenbelt. I think I speak for both Jen and Doug when I say that we have been working tirelessly to put together this collection. I want to offer my thanks to Jen for putting this site together and I want to thank Doug for setting up our MySpace. Right now, the biggest priority is that we receive release forms back from you. As Jen stated previously, if you don’t submit your release form to us, we cannot legally publish your work. We’ve received forms from 47 authors so far. The following 5 authors need to submit their forms:

Linda Acevedo

Thomas J.

Justin Lussier

Skep Poet

Tom Tripo

Status updates, and notice to contributors!

Posted by Jen on 31 May 2007 | Tagged as: notices, status updates

Hello!

This is a status update, and a notice to those who have contributed.

Over 50 writers contributed (Jack has the full list; he’ll be posting that shortly), and we have an excellent mix of poetry, visual art, literary criticism, and rants. Local artist Jane Butters very graciously provided a plethora of her own amazing illustrations for use in the anthology. Keep watching this space; we’ll be providing a sneak peek of the design within the next few weeks!

The extended submission deadline of April 20th, 2007 has passed. We are no longer accepting poetry submissions for Trails Through the Greenbelt. There will be future publications, so keep watching this space for information on when the submission periods for those are.

For those who did make the deadline, and submitted poetry to Jack Freedman, Doug Cala, or myself (Jen Carlo) for the anthology:

In order for your work to be published, you are required to fill out the release form and send back to us by July 1st. If you do not return the release form by July 1st, we cannot legally publish your work. This is required due to copyright issues when we get a Library of Congress number, and it is mandated by our publisher, Infinity Publishing. To repeat, if you do not get the release form back to us, we will be forced to remove your work from the anthology. We don’t want to have to do this to anyone, so get those forms in!

To access our release form, right-click (or CTRL-click if using a Mac) on this link and select from the menu “Save As” (or “Save File As”, “Save Link As”, “Save Target As”). Save the file AGREEMENT.doc to your Desktop. Open this file in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or whatever word processing application you use. You need to print out this form. Fill it out with a pen, and get it back to us (the mailing address is on the form.) You can mail it to Jack, give it to him, me or Doug in person, or make some arrangement to get it back to us. If you are unable to print out the form, let us know as soon as possible so that we can get a copy of the form to you.

In the release form, there is a space for authors to write a short (~100 words or so) autobiographical statement which will appear in the anthology alongside your work. You can write whatever you want readers to know about you. Be as specific or vague as you feel comfortable doing. Writing an autobiographical statement is optional, but we encourage everyone to do so.

If you have any questions about this, or need to make arrangements for getting a copy of the form or getting it back to us, please contact us either by registering and commenting here, or through our MySpace, or if you see us in person. You can also email Jack at jfreedman@si.rr.

Thank you so much for your wonderful contributions! It is so heartening to know that there are so many talented writers and artists on Staten Island.

–Jen Carlo
